Sosa Vintage Natural Wavell (5x50)

It is no secret that Sosa Cigars is one of my personal favorite brands. I still have a few sticks stashed in the humidor from my trip to Sosa Family Cigars that I picked up while vacationing in Disney World. One of the few sticks they offer that I have yet to review is the Vintage line. The Vintage doesn't really look much different from the  Sosa Classic, it has the same band with the addition of a "vintage" labeled band below it. The Vintage is comprised of dark Connecticut wrapper that houses a blend of Dominican Ligero that is aged 8 years. The chocolaty brown wrapper has minimal veining and is oily to the touch with no imperfections that I can find. It is firm and tightly rolled with no soft spots. The body offers only a light scent of cocoa and the foot offered the same notes of cocoa with hints of earth. I clipped the double cap with my Xikar MTX and found an absolutely perfect cold draw with the taste of sweet molasses. A quick toasting of the foot with the single flame torch and I was ready to get the smoke started. The initial third opened up with rich notes of coca and coffee with a few subtle notes of hay floating in the background. There is a nice bit of spice to the retrohale and the finish is long and nutty with a touch of sweetness. About an inch into the burn the spice on the retrohale calms a bit and everything becomes super smooth and mellow. As I start the second third the cocoa and coffee are joined by a nutty pecan and a few notes of leather pop in on occasion. Going into the final third the cocoa fades into the background as the leather notes gain some depth. The spice on retrohale picks back up in the final third as some woody notes make themselves known in the background. As the finish takes on a silky nutty caramel tone the flavors are really popping. To say this was a smooth and well balanced cigar would be an understatement. It maintained medium body throughout the burn, which required no corrections. The ash held to over an inch at a time and was a nice salt and pepper gray color. No surprise, another great stick from Sosa Cigars. I picked this one up at their shop but have seen them online a few times. Arby has let me know that these are only available at their shops in Florida and online at cigarsinternational.com. The price point is 6.50-8.50 per stick and well worth giving a try. Sosa Exclusive Series Grand Cetro Maduro (6x50)

This is one of the sticks I picked up on my trip to Sosa Family Cigars in Orlando, FL. so it has been marinating in the humidor for a few months. After a long week and watching my little sister get married, it was time for a celebration. What better way to celebrate than with a Sosa Cigar right? My thoughts exactly! I managed to get my son in bed a little early and had enough time to smoke something larger than a robusto size. This one had a dark brown, velvety smooth wrapper with a couple of noticeable veins but shouldn't be anything that would hinder the burn. The wrapper is a Connecticut broadleaf maduro which houses binder and filler from the Dominican Republic. The Sosa website says these are a limited production cigar due to their use of only the finest tobaccos. The wrapper had a light cocoa aroma with a hint of sweetness and the smell at the foot was of cocoa and molasses. It was firm to the pinch with little give and no soft spots that I could find. I clipped the cap with my new Xikar MTX multi-tool and found a perfect cold draw with hints of molasses and cocoa. After a quick toasting of the foot, it lit easily with the handy single flame torch. The Initial third opened up with light notes of red pepper, coffee, and leather. There was a very light caramel note that snuck in about 1/2 and inch into the burn. The sweetness of the maduro wrapper was mild and pleasant with just enough spice on the retrohale to compliment it perfectly. Body in the first inch or so was a solid medium for me. In the second third body picks up a bit to a solid medium. A cedary wood note along with some cream come into play in the second third as the smoke takes on a more creamy texture. In the final third the coffee note, that was more in the background in the first two thirds, moves to the foreground as a slight nuttiness joins the profile. The spice kicks up a notch going into the final third but is still mild and pleasant. There is a barely noticeable note of dark chocolate that seemed to make itself known at about the half way point that picks up just a bit in the final third. The final third seemed to bring a slightly bitter sensation to the tongue but was not harsh or unpleasant at all as the body kicked up to medium-full. The construction on this stick is exactly what you would expect from a Sosa Cigar, it was well made with perfect burn. The burn did get a bit wavy but always corrected itself, requiring no help from me. The resting smoke had a slightly sweet woody aroma. The ash held to around 2 inches at a time and was light gray in color. It's sticks like this, Underground, and the Super Selection that keep Sosa Cigars in my top 3 favorite brands. A solid cigar with a nice complexity and great flavors, yep it's a Sosa! I paid 10.00 for this stick at their shop in Downtown Disney. I believe they can be found online for less than that but even at the 10.00 price point it's a great cigar for the money. Burn time was around 2 hours and required no re-touches or re-lights. You can find more information on Sosa Cigars at www.SosaCigars.com and you can find Arby Sosa on twitter at http://twitter.com/sosacigars. 60 by Sosa 460s (4x60)

Another Saturday draws to a close which means my weekend officially starts now. It was a long day out in the 102 degree heat and no breaks long enough to enjoy a cigar. I decided when the sun went down it would be prime time to smoke. I selected a 60 by Sosa from the humidor and eagerly awaited my son's bed time as this has become my usual routine. The 60 just like the name implies is an entire line of nothing more or less than 60 ring gauge. They are available in 4,5,6, and 7 inch lengths. The oily shine on the Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper kind of got me salivating a bit anticipating my chance to light it up. Once the little one had fallen asleep I grabbed my tools and outside I went. The construction was excellent, like all the Sosa cigars I've smoked. I used my handy scissors which gave me a nice cat eye shaped opening in the cap. Pre light draw was easy and had a woody cedar tone to it. I decided to try my hand at wooden matches and used the ones given to me with my purchase from Sosa Family Cigars while on my vacation to Disney. 3 matches later and I was up and puffing. The flavor profile throughout is dominated by a slightly sweet woodiness. In the first half I picked up the woodiness along with a occassional note of honey and cream. The second half brought more of the first along with a toasty nuttiness. The second half also brought a spice sensation which tingled and excited my tongue. Burn was even with only a minor touch up, you can blame my match lighting skills for that I am sure. It was a cool burn all the way down to the nub. Available in the 5.50 price range for this size it is a great value for this rather complex little gem. Burn time was just over an hour as I relaxed and enjoyed the fact that it was finally cool enough to smoke a cigar. I normally don't go for the larger ring gauge smokes but this one was very enjoyable. Another fine smoke from Sosa and Antillian Cigar Corp. you can find Arby Sosa on twitter as @sosacigars and more information on their website at www.antilliancigars.com

Sosa Family Cigars To Release a New Size

Sosa Family Cigars is going to be adding a new size to it's Sosa Classic line. For more information please visit G.C. Puff's article at http://www.gcpuffs.com/2012/06/sosa-family-adds-new-size-to-already.html G.C. stated that they will be adding this new size to "an already perfect cigar line" and I couldn't agree more. There are very few cigar brands that I can say I haven't found at least one offering from that I didn't enjoy. Sosa Family Cigars is in that short list. I have tried almost all offerings and none have disappointed or fell short of superb quality with a complex flavor profile. I look forward to any new size offerings or new blends that may come from Sosa.

For more information, directly contact Arby Sosa at  1-800-238-2234 or asosa@sosacigars.com or visit www.antilliancigars.com to learn more about the company. Please follow them Twitter at @sosacigars or like their Sosa Cigars Facebook page at www.facebook.com/sosafamilycigars.

Sosa Family Cigars, Downtown Disney

I recently took a vacation to Disney World for 7 days with my wife and 3 year old. It was very fun and very tiring. After about 3 days of tired youngun screaming I needed a cigar. I convinced the wife we needed to head to downtown disney to eat at T-Rex (it just so happens sosa family cigars and fuego by sosa are right around the corner). I was told I could run ahead and try to grab a few sticks as little man was very tired and cranky after lunch. I passed by fuego, the bar, but didn't have time to grab a drink and relax unfortunately. I saw the big S from the Sosa band and picked up my pace. I knew I only had about a 5 minute window to grab a few sticks and get back to the family so we could get little man back to the room for a nap. The poor lady at the register must have thought I was crazy. I think I startled her the way I briskly busted through the door. She asked if she could help me find something and all I could get out in my excitement was "I'm here for the Sosa's". She pointed me to the door to the walk-in and informed me they were in the middle of the wall. The smell almost caused me to lose focus. I browsed the shelves with a watery mouth and selected 8 sosa's one by one. With my cell phone buzzing with text messages reminding me she was dealing with a very fussy child I reluctantly headed for the register with my small haul of sosa tasty treats. This was in no way the way I had planned my first visit to Sosa Family Cigars. I had every intention to have conversations with the staff and take some pictures and really wanted to grab a drink and a smoke at Fuego by Sosa as my wife treated little man to ice cream and the huge lego store. I may have been disappointed by my time restraints but there was no disappointment in the selection in the store or the staff. I hope I didn't scare the poor lady at the register too bad with my hurry. The good news is that they are adding new attractions to magic kingdom and there will be a trip back to disney world to check them out, that means I have another opportunity to visit and take my time. As far as that goes I might just grab my brother and take a road trip for a weekend soon. The people I have had the joy of meeting online at @sosacigars on twitter and their rep @carluba are so super friendly and nice. I hope next time I go i can meet everyone and take my time. The Undergrounds made the trip much easier and enjoyable. I highly recommend you stop by if you find yourself in the area and need or want a fine smoke. I look forward to my next opportunity to visit and hope there are no time restraints or cranky children demanding I hurry like the world is about to end. Next time I get the chance to visit i will burst through the door, ask what year it is, and exclaim "great scott i've done it" and hope nobody calls the cops

Sosa underground Delphic perfecto

Sosa Underground

Just acquired a generous sampler from Sosa family cigars and couldn't wait to light one up. I chose the underground Delphic to be the first to get smoked. It's beautiful oily wrapper has smooth seams and very light veins. Pre light draw was firm but to the point of needing attention. It lit with little effort and I am in love from first draw. The full bodied smoke is medium in strength and very pleasant. There is distinct nuttiness and creamy notes that spring out front with a slight hint of sweet cedar. The aftertaste from each puff resembles pecans to me. Ash is very tight with virtually no flaking and is a beautiful light gray. The second third is more of the buttery cream and nuttiness with a hint of earth creeping in. Remains very smooth and creamy throughout the burn with a very even burn no touch up at all needed and I am anal about even burn. The second half of this stick has brought a bit of pepper and coffee to my attention but is very subtle and enjoyable. I see this being my 30th birthday celebration cigar this year. So tasty, smooth, and creamy MSRP is around 6.50 a stick but worth so much more. Stay tuned for more sosa cigars on review and a visit to their shop in Florida while on the family vacation in may. I plan to post pictures if they will let me take a few and review the shop as a whole. If I can sneak away I will try to get by their cigar bar as well. This cigar was generously donated to me by Sosa family cigars so that I could have my first taste of Sosa cigars and share my findings here. Thanks again Sosa family! These can be found at www.cigarstix.com and www.podmancigars.com
