Alec Bradley Retreat (6x54)

Thompson Cigar

I posted a few pics of this as #NowSmoking and got several people wanting to know where I got it and what the profile was like. I picked this stick up from Thompsoncigar.com and it is a Thompson Cigar exclusive offering. The name on the band had me decided on this one, as I was requiring a retreat from the daily grind. The wrapper is a Habano Rosado Osuro and had a couple of decent size veins but not enough to really worry about. It was firm with just a bit of give under the light brown wrapper. The binder is a Nicaraguan viso habano. The filler is a blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Mexican long filler. I straight clipped the cap with my cigar scissors and found a near perfect draw with a sweet tobacco flavor. The wrapper had a barnyard aroma and the foot smelled of aged tobacco with a hint of molasses. It lit effortlessly with the handy single flame torch. The first third started out with a very nice toasted nuttiness with a hint of honey. The finish was lingering and had a nutty flavor with just a touch of black pepper. About 3/4 of an inch in there was an interesting spice and a woody oak note that came into play. The second third brought light coffee notes and a slight bitter sensation to the finish as the honey notes faded. The oak notes took on more of a cedar flavor in the second third. The final third brought more of the coffee and cedar notes as the pepper amped up a touch. The ash held to just under 2 inches and was a flaky light gray color. The burn was near perfect to the half way point and then started to go a bit erratic, requiring 2 minor touchups. It produced tons of smoke and had a decently complex profile with good rich flavors. At the time of this review Thompson had these for around 25.00 for a 5 pack, putting the price point at around 5 bucks a stick for this size. Final judgement, pretty darn good stick, especially at the price you can grab them for. The link to this size on the Thompsoncigars.com website is HERE
