Nomad Cigar Co. Vagabond (4 5/8'x max 54)
I won a sampler of Nomad Cigars from Fred Rewey at Nomad Cigar Co in the #NomadNovember contest on twitter. I knew when they arrived I was in for a treat but let them rest for a few weeks before giving them a try. I selected the vagabond for the review, which is a sweet looking little perfecto. The Ecuadorian Habano wrapper has a nice oily sheen, small veins, and nearly invisible seams. The binder is Dominican, as well as the filler. The wrapper offered the aroma of hay and the foot offered up notes of hay and sweet field grass. I went with a V cut on this one and found a perfect cold draw with notes of earth and sweet grass. The single flame torch toasted the foot and got things going with ease. I will break this one down in halves due to the less than 5 inch length. The first half opened with great flavors right out of the gate. Leather, light notes of coffee, and a mildly sweet and almost floral note. There is a perfect amount of spice on the retrohale to compliment the sweetness. The finish is long and nutty with a mild natural sweetness. About an inch in the smoke becomes velvet smooth and creamy. The sweetness was really shining going into the second half. In the second half the coffee notes gained some richness and depth as some caramel-like notes emerged. The sweetness faded a touch as the smoke took on a rich savory tone. A bit into the second there is a oaky woodiness that joins the profile. The construction on this figurado was absolutely top notch. The ash held to around 3 inches before falling roughly six inches into the stinky jr. ashtray. The ash landed from that height and still managed to remain almost entirely intact. The body was consistently medium and full of flavor. Fred has a great blend here with such a flavorful and super smooth cigar, I can't wait to see what blends Nomad Cigar Co. release next. As you will find on the band, you can find Fred on twitter as @GodFadr and more information about Nomad Cigar Co. at www.nomadcigarcompany.com. Thank you again to Fred and Nomad Cigar Co. for the prize sampler. They are some awesome sticks! You can pick the Vagabond size up for around 7 bucks a stick, and it will provide plenty of bang for your buck. Brad at cigarstix.com has the Nomad Cigar Co. line in stock and ready to ship. Now that Nomad no longer sells through their own website, finding a steady supply is a smart idea ;)
